The meaning of life, does Google have the answer?

Now, what do SEO and web design have to do with the quest for the meaning of life?
Not much - at the first glance. However, I decided to say a word or two on that topic.

On the net there are more than 11000 searches (monthly) for the term "meaning of life".
Out of those at least two or three of them were mine.
Yes. I admit. I wanted to see of Google had the answer to the ultimate question.

Google had many answers. Millions of them. I could have chosen the one I like. But then again, why would anyone choose someone elses answer? How could anyone be more competent than the one posing this particular question in the first place?

I figured, every person has to find their own answer. There is no single answer "to rule them all". At this moment there are 6,6 billion different answers and the number is growing. Go get your own dude.

And, in the meantime, while figuring it out, we do blogs. And write about other things that occupy us. For instance SEO, or web design and this is what SEO, web design and the meaning of life have in common.

SEO and web design

Combining SEO requirements with high-quality design has never been more difficult.
Why do I say that?
Well, for starters, if you want your web to be search engine friendly, you better forget about the Flash. There are number of workarounds on how to make flash pages search engine friendly, but none of them can provide you with anything comparable to good old-fashioned html pages.
Secondly, the words that appear closer to the beginnig of the page have the most "weight" for keyword ranking. OK, you can always add some good alt tag but the "weight" that this one will be given by search engine is not close to the weight that only straight text in anchor can provide.
So, you better start designing web pages that start with text in anchors.
I know, this blog is supposed to be on images and design related stuff. But, web designers today are facing all kind of requirements and this one is, in many cases, one of them.
However, again, if you are after some really cool tutorials on Photoshop and Illustrator - this is the place.

Website and graphic design

Here is one site that i Like Graphics and illustrations

As a professional website designer, I am always amazed
at the number of business websites out there that make
it nearly impossible to do business with the company
via the website.

Here is a list of 5 things that I recommend you check
to make sure your website is working for you and not
against you.

1. Does it state where you are willing to sell your
products or services? Worldwide, nationwide,regionally,
locally? If not worldwide, do you clearly state where
you are? I have seen sites that were clearly local
services that didn't even say what state they were in.

2. Does it make it easy for customers to ask questions?
No matter how clear you think you have been, there will
always be someone with a question. You should have a
contact link or email link on every page.

3. Do you have photos of your product or examples or
your work? Not many are willing to buy a product sight
unseen.

4. How easy is it to order from you? You should have a
shopping cart button or order form link in a highly
visible spot. Make it clear what payment methods you
accept, what your shipping charges are, and how the
product will be shipped. Link the order form to a
confirmation page so the customer is assured that
the order went through.

5. What if the customer is not satisfied with the
product? Have you made your return policies clear? Who
is responsible for shipping if something is returned?
Do you allow refunds, or just exchanges? What if the
item was damaged during shipping? You need to make the
customer feel secure in placing an order with you.

If your website doesn't look professional, doesn't
answer their questions, and doesn't make it easy for
people to buy from you, they will surf on to the next
site that does. So take some time to make sure your
website is working for you and not against you.
